Parent Empowerment Project
The goal of our Parent Empowerment Project is to provide advocacy, information and referral in order to help the parents and the professionals grow in their roles, as they become more knowledgeable in those factors that affect behavior and communication in the children they care and provide for.
By functioning as a catalyst, and providing the very latest information on autism, we help parents grow in their ability to handle the tasks ahead. Further, if a parent or sibling or other autism-involved person needs someone to talk to, it can be us, or someone we suggest.
Description of Parent Empowerment Project:
We provide information and referral to parents and professionals about diagnostic procedures and services.
We provide names of facilities or individuals who can provide medical, educational, psychological and other therapeutic services to autistic children and their families.
We advise parents by phone, or in person, concerning decisions they must make in seeking the necessary appropriate services for their child or adult.
We counsel facilities and/or professionals who are unfamiliar with autism, and put them in touch with other professionals who can supplement their efforts.
We encourage, promote and assist in creating new programs that are needed to fill gaps in service.
